An employee at the Chinese-run Huaman Investments in Harare has been violently assaulted after filing a compensation claim with the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) for a workplace accident. The victim alleges the attack occurred in direct response to “seeking rightful redress.”
Alois Vinga reports the employee was punched and kicked inside the company premises, sustaining injuries requiring hospital attention. “He was brutally attacked for involving the NSSA,” said a union representative.
The incident has sparked outrage from labour advocates demanding legal action and stricter enforcement of workers’ rights. Authorities reportedly opened an investigation into the assault.
