Founder and Leader of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries, Walter Magaya, who recently took the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to court over his disqualification from the elections, finds himself embroiled in a controversy involving alleged fake academic qualifications.
Magaya had been barred from contesting in the ZIFA elections for failing to meet the minimum requirement of possessing five Ordinary Level subjects. In his legal challenge, Magaya claimed he held a higher qualification—a diploma from the University of South Africa (UNISA). However, UNISA has since distanced itself from these claims.
According to documents seen by this publication, UNISA confirmed that Magaya was never enrolled as a student at the institution. The university has reportedly taken steps to report the matter as fraud.
Ongoing investigations have revealed that not only did Magaya allegedly submit fraudulent documents to the court, but he may also have been involved in a scheme with unnamed individuals linked to the university.
In response to a journalist's inquiry, UNISA’s public relations office stated:
“The system could not trace either the student number or date of birth for Mr. Magaya. This effectively means that we do not have Mr. Magaya as a student of UNISA.”
Efforts to obtain a comment from Magaya were unsuccessful, as calls to his number went unanswered.
The revelations raise serious questions about Magaya’s credibility and the integrity of his legal challenge against ZIFA. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter, with further developments expected in the coming weeks.
