Hosted by Global Renaissance Investments (GRI), the four-day conference, scheduled to run from March 3rd to 6th at the Troutbeck Resort, aims to explore transformative strategies for the country's urban development.
Themed "Towards Smart Cities by 2030 and Beyond," the conference will delve into the intersection of technology and devolution, seeking ways to enhance livability and sustainability in Zimbabwe's urban landscapes.
Distinguished speakers slated for the event include Hon. Winston Chitando, Minister of Local Government and Public Works, and Hon. Daniel Garwe, Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities. The lineup also features industry leaders such as Nabeelah Jogee, CEO of Century Star Solutions, and Alex Million, former president of the Real Estate Institute of Zimbabwe (REIZ).
Ngoni Dzirutwe, CEO of Global Renaissance Investments, emphasized the critical need for innovative solutions as Zimbabwe undergoes urbanization. "This conference brings together the right minds to develop those solutions," stated Dzirutwe.
The Smart Cities and Devolution Master Class 2024 is anticipated to ignite essential discussions and foster collaborations to build a smarter and more resilient future for Zimbabwe's urban population.
Despite Zimbabwe's goal of achieving middle-income status and transforming Harare into a world-class city by 2025, the existing infrastructure falls below the envisioned standard. Nevertheless, endeavours such as the upcoming conference demonstrate a proactive stance, instilling hope that the nation is advancing towards substantial progress and development.
